Someone is killing members of the Cain family–a family of rogue werewolves who are not a part of Elena Michaels’ North American Pack. The Cains are known for being a bit dim and brutish, and it seems perhaps one of them has done something to earn the ire of someone who has paid an assassin to wipe them all out. He’s hunting them down, forcing them to Change, and hanging the skinned wolf carcasses.
Young Davis Cain comes home from a date and finds his house in disarray with no one inside, and runs into the dead bodies of his family members. The Cains fear and hate the Pack for their rules and the harsh discipline doled out when those rules are broken. The Pack, however, has strength in numbers.
Davis panics, and figures the Pack are the only ones organized enough to help–and Elena has to show whoever is killing off werewolves that they’re not going to get away with it in her territory.
This novella really only suffers from one flaw–it’s a longish novella instead of a full length novel. It’s well in tune with past Otherworld novels, featuring fan-beloved characters and a bloody mystery. Elena is in charge, on form, and as entertaining as ever. Recommended for fans of the Otherworld series, but for first time readers it may be a bit confusing.
