Alex McKenna is the new Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Bureau of Paranormal Investigations. Children have begun to go missing, and its the suspected work of shades–what some would refer to as vampires. He’s putting together an unconventional team to get to the bottom of it, and one member in particular has some valuable, insider information to help solve the case.

The shade responsible is her brother, and he’s after something that could make shades much more dangerous than they already are.

Nightshades takes a neat little turn at telling a vampire tale, and these vampires aren’t pretty. Some look like normal people, some don’t bother. Those are the ones out of nightmare. The story avoids cliches, gets right into the action, and stays interesting. It’s a fairly quick read at 208 pages, and great for a weekend.
