Disney and Lucasfilm have just announced that Rian Johnson, director of next month’s The Last Jedi, is going to be tackling a brand new Star Wars Trilogy.
Details are scarce aside from that he will be working with long time collaborator Ram Bergman. There is no word on who will be involved be it characters from the current trilogy or if it will be based on an entirely new story.
Kathleen Kennedy says, “We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
This might be the biggest sign yet as to how great The Last Jedi is going to be if they’re handing Johnson the reins to an entire new trilogy.
This also comes with news that Disney is planning a live action Star Wars series that will be exclusive to their upcoming streaming platform.
Excitement level has jumped to lightspeed.
