The internet has exploded with this news that music legend David Bowie has died at the age of 69 after an 18-month battle with cancer. In this age of constant hoaxes, it’s been a waiting game as to whether this was actually true or not.
Unfortunately, it has been confirmed.
From his official Facebook page:
January 10 2016 – “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
Bowie had just last week released a chart-topping, critically acclaimed, new album, Blackstar. His penultimate album The Next Day, spawned Top Ten UK hits like the Grammy-nominated (The Stars) which featured a video with his female doppleganger, actress Tilda Swinton.
At the time of his death, Bowie had been married to Somali-born model Iman for 23 years, and they have a daughter, Alexandria. The director Duncan Jones is David’s son from his first marriage to model Angie Bowie, who is currently in the UK’s “Celebrity Big Brother” house. UK’s Channel 5 have decided to be classy, and told the contestant “off-air”, but this will be a gruesome ratings boon.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
