Catch Me Daddy

Laila is a young English woman of Pakistani descent who’s living happily with her boyfriend Aaron in a trailer outside of Yorkshire England. Unfortunately, she’s also a runaway and her powerful organized-crime family has sent hired thugs to help find her and bring her home.  When her brother catches up with her, a fight ensues resulting in a tragic accident and Laila is forced to flee into the night. Now, fearing for her safety, she and Aaron must keep running from the people pursuing them. If they are caught, it will mean being sent home to her father which could be a death sentence.

FINAL SELECTS TIFF - 145

With a backdrop of poverty and drug use, Catch Me Daddy approaches its setting and story from an ‘on the ground’, ultra-realistic point of view. The commitment of the filmmaker brothers Daniel and Matthew Wolfe to regional authenticity was so intense that they casted a good portion of their characters with non-actors. Most notable of these newcomers was Sameena Jabeen Ahmed playing Laila. Sameena, in her very first appearance in a film, gives a stunning and passionate performance that is the very heart of ‘Catch’.

?????

The couple is running to preserve the only things they have left, their freedom and each other. I can’t help but think of this as something of a modern Romeo and Juliet tale, a romance that the family is determined to not let be, but that makes you root for them all the more. Taut, dark, and never boring, Catch Me Daddy has a definite shock or two up its sleeve that will rattle even the most hardened audience member. Catch this thriller if you can!

Catch Me Daddy opens in limited release on Friday August 7th.
