Well. Time to see what we have after the heavy previous episode.
We open with the past, seeing Chloe’s dad’s murder. Yipes.
Then, Chloe calls and leaves a message with a warden begging him not to release the killer. Guess he’s up for parole?
Lucifer is pouting that Dr. Linda has cancelled his appointments. Hrm. Thought the reaction from last episode was kind of self-evident where that was going, but on some level, I guess Luci’s in denial. Chloe is a bit touchy over the whole parole of her father’s murderer thing.
As it turns out, its not parole, its family leave. A family christening.
Lucifer decides he needs to be someone else, so he decides to be…Dan? Somehow, I don’t think this will go too well.
Meanwhile, Chloe decides to check up and see what her father’s killer is up to. The answer? Not much, someone’s broken into the prison transport and killed him.
Dan is immediately annoyed at Lucifer following him. Lucifer agrees to follow Dan’s directions. Yeah, ok. This should be good. They start arguing pretty quickly. Chloe gets Dan to agree to keep Luci on the case with him.
Maze is interviewing to be a preschool aide. Oh, dear. Trixie is pretty quick, so she asks Maze if she even likes little kids. Maze says she’s already used to taking care of screaming humans, smaller ones shouldn’t be much different. Heh.
The doorbell rings, and the daughter of the dead killer has a gun pointed at Chloe, because she assumes Chloe killed the murderer. Chloe quickly defuses he situation, and the daughter shows her a video. The video is a ‘if you’re seeing this I’m dead’ video. He says he didn’t kill Chloe’s dad, and little clues in the video prove it.
Dan picks up the guy they think killed their murderer. He tries to give a false confession, but Lucifer does his ‘what do you want’ thing and gets him to admit he was paid to confess.
Maze tries to get a character reference from Dr. Linda, but she’s hiding. Maze figures out pretty quickly what’s going on. She’s pretty hurt over losing one of her few friends. I really hope Dr. Linda comes around.
The team figures out that whoever paid their bad guy to confess also paid the man arrested for killing Chloe’s dad to confess. One step closer to the real killer.
We see cute memories of Chloe’s first day with Dan. Aww.
Dude who paid the confessors off is part of the Russian mob? Lucifer and Dan go to a bathhouse to sniff out the mobster. OMG, Tom Ellis can do a seriously funny American accent. When he resumes being himself, he attempts to hire the Russian supplier of patsys, Boris. OH HEY! There’s a familiar face, Charles Halford (Chaz on Constantine)! Lucifer hires Boris because he says he wants himself dead (after introducing himself as Dan). They want a patsy for their killer. More self loathing?
They bring him in, and Chloe talks to Boris. It’s looking like her Dad found out something he shouldn’t have. Uh oh. I have a feeling this means his killer was another cop?
Dan and Lucifer have a weird conversation about Lucifer’s quest to figure out Dan.
Maze’s job search isn’t going so well. She talks with Chloe, and Chloe explains what’s going on. They talk about what feels right for a job. Methinks this heart to heart will lead to Maze finding her new calling.
Lucifer finds out Dan does improv, and his latest gag is impersonating…Lucifer? Ouch. They have a heated ‘talk’, and it sounds like it was to drive home the point of what it felt like for Luci to imitate him. Dan thinks Luci needs to be more honest, Luci says the last person he opened up to, he hurt. I’m thinking he’s referring to Dr. Linda. Dan opens up to Luci, gets super honest. He admires some things about Luci. Apparently, they were trying to learn from each other. Who knew.
Luci starts feeling better, until he talks to Maze. She’s pissed at him for chasing off Dr. Linda.
Chloe figures out the deputy warden is the actual killer. Her and Luci go to collect the warden, but he’s run. Chloe feels like a failure, but Lucifer gives her a pep talk. They go back to Chloe’s…to find Maze has nabbed the warden for them, and he’s all trussed up and waiting for them. She’s found her calling.
Chloe is sooooooo tempted to shoot the guy, but doesn’t.
Maze goes back to talk to Dr. Linda. She shows Linda her first paycheck as a bounty hunter. She says the first thing she wanted to do was celebrate with her friend. Linda opens the door. Maze reasons with her, and she gives in. Progress!
Lucifer tells Chloe her father would be proud of her. She starts to cry, and of course he doesn’t really know how to take it. She hugs him, and he kind of gets that he did something right.
