In this episode of Lucifer, we see that indeed, his Mother is rather like any other. Stepping in at the worst moments.
After a rather uncomfortable and weirded out woman hastily leaves Lucifer’s place, he starts to have a talk with dear old Mum. Conveniently, murder calls.
He and Chloe arrive at a murder scene where the victim has been asphyxiated and set on fire. Upon examination, they discover that the crotch was the ignition point, which leads to the inevitable fire and crotch jokes and one of Chloe’s funnier lines: “Do NOT touch the charred crotch.” Sometimes she’s more like Lucifer’s mother than Mother is.
It becomes clear that they’re dealing with a serial killer into punishing people for wrongs they’ve done to others. Lucifer is motivated to find the killer mostly because someone’s stealing his thunder. He’s the original punisher, this guy’s a wanna be.
That attitude of course flip-flops as they discover another body, warring between wanting to find the person hijacking his jam and wanting to let the guy keep on keeping on. After all, the killer has proved himself to be rather inventive.
They find out that the two murders have one thing in common–a video app called Wobble. Bother victims had something to do with videos that humiliated or ruined someone’s life.
During all of this, Chloe and Dan are having some troubles of their own. There’s an upcoming yearly family camping trip, and with as busy as Dan has been (interrupting his parenting time) and as weird as things have been between him and Chloe, it’s unclear whether the trip is a good idea. After Lucifer advises Chloe that maybe having Trixie stuck in the middle of their issues with each other could be bad for Chloe (having been there himself), Chloe is convinced that the trip would probably be a bad idea.
The dynamic between Chloe and Lucifer is interesting. So often, his almost juvenile antics have Chloe reacting to him like a parent or giving him advice as he blithely carries on in narcissistic fashion–but almost as often, he gives her insights she isn’t expecting.
Amenadiel finally has a run in with Mother. He goes to Lucifer’s apartment above Lux looking for him, but instead runs into Mother. At first, he doesn’t know it’s her. He very quickly begins to realize when she starts ranting at him–she may claim not to have any problems with Lucifer, but she certainly has issues with Amenadiel. Wow.
Maze also has a talk with Dr. Linda. Without giving the specifics, she tells Dr. Linda she has to figure out a way to get rid of Mother, because she’s toxic. Dr. Linda doesn’t really seem to completely get it.
Chloe and Lucifer eventually discover that an HR rep at Wobble is responsible for the murders. They walk in on him forcing another co-worker to record an apology video. He just snapped, seeing all the horrible things happening at (and because of) the company. He said he couldn’t just do nothing anymore–Lucifer tells him that no, he was just wanting to punish.
Amenadiel is struggling with his new Fallen status, and is trying his best to hide it from everyone, including Maze. We’ll see how long that lasts.
Lucifer decides that Mother needs to remain as a human and live on Earth with them, since this is the only way she’s going to get to know her sons. As Mother walks out for the evening, she’s accosted by a mugger. She shoves the mugger against the wall with enough force to kill him. The smile on her face at this realization tells us that she’s definitely going to be up to more shenanigans.
