Out today from Scream Factory is the Collector’s Editions of Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2 (Sold Separately). The Creeper is a fascinating franchise monster who was a rare gem in what was a fairly sparse time in horror film history. The timing of these releases is also perfect as the filming for Jeepers Creepers 3 is reportedly finally underway after many false starts. The Creeper is a monster that every 23 years awakens and gets to feed for 23 days. He can fly, has a variety of throwing weapons, and can rock a dirty trench coat like no one else.  His primary purpose in feeding is to replace his worn out body parts and his targets of choice all seem to be well built young men.

This monster takes on a somewhat creepy (Creeper?) aspect when you consider Director Victor Salva’s much publicized conviction and incarceration for engaging in and videotaping sex acts with a minor. This criminal history has apparently caused some casting problems on the new film, however, Salva’s personal problems aside, he is one of the modern masters of horror and these two films are the crown jewels of that career. Let’s take a look at what’s in each disc:

Jeepers Creepers

In the first film, Trish (Gina Phillips) and her brother Darry (Justin Long, he’s a MAC) are taking a scenic route to get home during a college break. They happen to drive by and spot the Creeper dumping a body and unfortunately drawn his interest. Soon they’re on the run for their lives from a seemingly unkillable monster.

The ‘making of’ stuff is all pretty good and the discs are just jam packed but I most recommend the audio commentary with Victor, Gina, and Justin. If you’re like me and you’ve seen this movie 50 times already, try it with this awesome fun commentary. The three of them are lively and funny and there are a million great inside stories of the shooting of the film. It is one of the more enjoyable commentaries I’ve listened to.

Jeepers Creepers 2

This time the Creeper is after a busload of high school football players; don’t worry, before the scares start there are plenty shirtless sunbathing shots on top of the bus, guys peeing together, and even some gay innuendo just to drive the point home. There’s also a pretty awesome subplot with Ray Wise as a father driven by a Captain Ahab lust for revenge after the Creeper takes his little boy.
