Daniel Kaluuya plays Chris, an African-American man visiting his Caucasian girlfriend’s parents. Despite a pleasant start to the trip, he is faced with some deadly horrors on his visit.
The film grossed a whopping $176 million in the US alone. It also managed over 20 major awards.
David Fincher directed the film adaptation of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg’s life. With a star-studded cast of Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake, the film really brought to life the journey Zuckerberg went through to create the biggest social media platform of all time. The drama is considered one of the best releases of the decade, managing three Academy Awards and four Golden Globes.
Parasite follows the story of the Kim family. The struggling family are boosted with optimism when their son starts working for a wealthy family. They all begin working in the household, living a parasitic life. The film was directed by Bong Joon-Ho, who also picked up the Academy Award for best directing. It would pick up Academy Awards for best picture, best production design, writing, and best international feature film.
The historical drama 12 Years a Slave follows the story of Solomon Northup. He is a free African-American and is promised a job that would help fund his family. However, when he arrives in Washington, it becomes clear to him that he has been sold into slavery. The powerful drama has an amazing performance from Chiwetel Ejiofor, picking up the BAFTA award for best actor in a leading award. This was just one of the many awards the movie earned, with the film picking up three academy awards among many others.
