Blindspot recap: In Words, Drown I
We rejoin the cast with seeing Zapata in jail. The earlier assumption that maybe it was her meddling with the evidence in the murder case of the pedo coach was wrong–she’s in there undercover for another tattoo case. She’s trying to get close to a woman arrested for running guns for Sandstorm.
Weller talks to Patterson–she hasn’t been going home at night. He insists she talk to the new head doc, and rightly so. Later we see her go off on one of her techs when his screw up ruins part of the operation. She acts as though the tech must be working for Sandstorm (he isn’t). She’s paranoid, tired, and on edge. She tells the doc that she second guesses herself all the time now because she missed that Borden was a mole.
Roman insists that Jane tell Weller that he killed Taylor Shaw’s mother–and that goes over just as badly as you’d expect. Weller is pissed and hurt–Jane has been keeping this from him. For the moment, he wants nothing to do with Roman.
Looking good in orange
The team had Zapata smuggle in a cell phone to stay in touch in case things go sideways (I don’t even want to think about how she manages that–eww), but Zapata is determined not to be pulled out early. She stars a fight to gain the gun runner’s trust.
As Zapata gets closer to the mark, the team learns more about her and who she’s been working with. As it turns out, her boyfriend is the guy who has taken over Borden’s role in the organization now that he’s dead.
It begins to look like the inmates Zapata started a fight with are looking to kill the gunrunner–they stab her. Zapata gets the team’s help to break them both out of the jail, figuring it’ll cement their trust.
Weller has a little talk with Roman. Pretty much, he pushes a weight down on Roman’s chest and lets him know how he really feels. Ouch.
Fight or Flight
The team sets the plan in motion to enable Zapata’s escape, but things backfire when her and the gunrunner go to meet the boyfriend–he knows exactly who Zapata is. They take her hostage, and when the team goes to retrieve her, she’s sitting on a pressure switch activated bomb.
After a firefight between the Sandstorm people and the team, Jane has a pretty cool fight with the gun runner (played by Ronda Rousey).
They bring the boyfriend in, but of course he’s not going to talk. Zapata wants to go the phone book to the face route to extract information, but Weller isn’t going there. Zapata points out that Weller nearly got killed by Shepard’s people (what happened to his protection? Remember when Shepard decided he needs to die?).
And the moment we’ve been dreading…
Roman accidentally cuts his finger making dinner, and in comes the inevitable–he remembers who erased his memory.
Uh oh.
