Detective Renee Ballard is back, still working the Late Show (night beat). This time, she encounters our favorite, Harry Bosch, who’s investigating an old murder. Remember the woman from Harry’s last case, the one held by the pill mill? Her daughter was killed years back, and Harry’s made the promise to find out who did it.
Ballard ends up teaming up with Harry to solve the murder, and along the way a more recent case nearly gets Harry killed. Convinced that Ballard makes a pretty good partner, I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing more of the team down the road.
Harry Bosch is one of my favorite characters, and reading any new Connelly book is always a treat. His years of experience in journalism have given him an eye for realism, and I find his stories not only believable, but highly entertaining. I can’t wait for the next one.
The Bosch series is a long one, but if you like detective books there isn’t a better series out there.
JL Jamieson is a strange book nerd who writes technical documents by day, and book news, reviews, and other assorted opinions for you by night. She is working on her own fiction, and spends time making jewelry to sell at local conventions, as well as stalking the social media accounts of all your favorite writers.
