Yelena and Valek are still hard at work in foiling the plot against both Sitia and Ixia’s government. One man has been subverting the will of the Sitian Magician’s Council with magic and drugs, another is controlling Ixia’s commander with magic.
What Yelena and Valek discover, is that the two men seem to be working together. While one man wants control of Sitia and the downfall of Ixia, the other wants both nations under his control.
Assassins are still after Yelena, and with her magic being blocked by the baby she’s got to fight even harder to survive.
This is the third book in the Soulfinder trilogy, and the sixth Yelena book. It feels like the last one. I haven’t found anything that says so either way yet, but the story ties up with a nice finality that feels like the end of a series (or perhaps the beginning of a new one, if she writes about Yelena’s kid). I’ve always liked this series, because the characters are interesting and enjoyable and Yelena in particular is a badass. As this is the end of this arc, it’s not a book to jump into the series with–I’d recommend starting at the beginning with Poison Study.
