In this alternate timeline, The Great Library of Alexandria has survived, and become the center of all knowledge in the world. To avoid the dissemination of thoughts that aren’t ‘true’, all books are controlled by the Library, through special Codexes. These are copies that through technology ‘mirror’ originals, but aren’t unique or original in themselves. Owning hand written, original copies of books is forbidden.
In the first book in the series, Ink and Bone, Jess Brightwell and his friends went through training to serve The Great Library. One of the friends, Thomas, invents a machine that could change their world forever. He gets branded a heretic, and disappears into the Library’s jails.
The friends have gotten their respective positions within the Library, and are finding out that the Library has some very dark secrets. Secrets that may have gotten Thomas tortured. They need to find him, and get him away from the Library before it gets any worse.
This second installment in The Great Library series packs in more action and espionage, and employs some classic themes about knowledge, control, and censorship. A diverse cast of characters keeps the story interesting and inventive. Eagerly awaiting the third in the trilogy.
