Clare has been miserable since she lost her best friend. She’s a moody teen who likes to read about John Dee and rifle through the local secondhand shop, and she really only had the one friend.
Clare’s friend was a demon Clare called Her.
When Clare’s behaviour became stranger than usual, her mother called the local pastor, and he ripped Her from Clare. Now Clare would do just about anything to get Her back. She was Clare’s friend, confidant, and protector.
Clare finds clues left by Her on how to get Her back, and it begins with befriending the pastor’s quiet son.
The Good Demon is a strange, dark fairytale that reminds us that we should be careful what we wish for, and to never trust strange wizards with magic houses in the woods.
I enjoyed this one a lot–it was very different from the usual possession tales, turning some of the old tropes on their ear. It was a bit of classic horror mixed with modern fairytale. The cast of characters is interesting and well developed.
