SmugMug has acquired Flickr. The photo storage company which was founded in 2002 has purchased the famous platform acquired by Yahoo in 2005 to maintain it as an independent community of professional and amateur photographers as well as dedicate more resources to it.

As reported by the USA recently, the Silicon Valley company that has acquired Flickr is committed to giving a new life to the social network. This was stated by the CEO of SmugMug, Don MacAskill.

A Big Deal

Flickr was founded in 2004 as one of the pioneering social networks. However, after the emergence of other platforms such as Instagram, the fate of the photo page began to be somewhat uncertain. In this context, the decline of Yahoo contributed to the uncertainty especially after Verizon bought it for more than 4,500 million dollars. Despite the problems, Flickr maintains that it has more than 75 million registered photographers and more than 100 million users.

The agreement has already been confirmed but SmugMug’s plans now that he owns Flickr have not yet been specified. In fact, not even the CEO himself has drawn up a plan. “I do not know what the future holds, this is a new model for me,” MacAskill said, although he specified that they will have to operate based on their income and profitability.

The Strategy of SmugMug and Flickr

The strategy, for the moment, will be focused on listening to the demands and proposals of customers and employees. Despite the acquisition, SmugMug and Flickr accounts will remain independent of each other for the time being. First Flickr passed into the hands of Yahoo. And then Verizon bought Yahoo. Now the one that will take over the photo site will be SmugMug which has announced the acquisition of Flickr, although without giving financial details.

“We could not be more enthusiastic to unite two brands that share the same mission, passions and values,” reads the blog on this issue of the company which wants to give shelter to all kinds of photographers, from the purely amateur to those who are professionals. This information is provided by one of the best UK mobile casinos which has a diverse collection of handpicked UK mobile slots, scratch cards online and various casino games from the leading game developing titans.

At the operational level, however, there will be no merger of both services. SmugMug promises that “Flickr will continue to be Flickr and SmugMug will remain as SmugMug, but together we will both be even better.” For now, that is the accounts of SmugMug and Flickr will be independent of each other and their users must log in with the credentials they now have. The usual URLs will also be preserved.

SmugMug assures that the free version of Flickr will be maintained and that the Flickr Pro subscription will not change either since today there are no changes to the plans and rates.
