My full review of The Fifth Season is available here. It’s a book that I think is the best of the nominations for this year’s Hugo. (It’s the one I’m voting for.) The world building is complex, and the story weaves three separate pieces of a character’s life into one nuanced tale that keeps the reader deeply invested in the story. It has a lot to say, and accomplishes it with grace and empathy. The main character is a strong woman who has gone through life being reviled and othered as someone who possesses world shattering powers. One of her children is killed by a man she loved for possessing those same powers, and he steals away with her other child. The world is in chaos as another Season begins, and the reader follows both her journey to find her daughter and her journey to how she got to the life she leads now.

The next book in the trilogy, The Obelisk Gate, is out August 16th, and I’m reading it now. I’ll have the review posted soon. It’s every bit as good as The Fifth Season, if you haven’t gotten The Fifth Season yet, get it now. This trilogy isn’t to be missed.
