Impact of mobile gaming on the online casino industry

It might be hard to remember a time when you didn’t use your mobile phone for everything, especially for the younger generations who embrace new technology with open arms and have an app for just about everything. For gambling lovers, the vast majority will now opt to gamble on their mobile devices at Dream Jackpot instead of venturing out to a local casino or bookmakers. But just what has been the impact of mobile gaming on the casino industry? Experts say that the industry has turned a corner of which it can never turn back on, relying on mobile gambling which takes up a huge percentage of the industry.

The mobile gambling industry is said to be worth a whopping $100bn in 2020 and the gambling industry has grown exponentially thanks to technology, with mobile gaming playing a leading role in the huge development of the casino industry. Gambling is classed as playing any game, be that Poker, slots, Blackjack or any other game, for money and usually involves players placing their bets in the hope of winning a jackpot or other cash prize. But it’s not just the chance of winning huge sums of money that attracts players to online gambling, the adrenaline rush alone that players get while gambling is enough to keep them coming back for more, meaning gambling has remained a popular pastime as technology has advanced. Players can get their adrenaline rush even easier than ever before with mobile gaming – that thrill is right at their fingertips.

At the end of 2015, the online casino industry was said to be worth $41.4bn and now it has more than doubled in just five years, leading many to surmise that this rise is due to the integration of mobile and mobile apps into our everyday lives. It’s easy to see how mobile has totally transformed our entire lives. We use them and rely on them for almost everything, from speaking to our loved ones, sending e-mails, doing our grocery shopping, entertaining ourselves and even cashing a cheque that our great aunt gives us on our mobile banking apps – despite us thinking “who even sends cheques these days?!”. Mobiles have totally changed the face of almost every industry and the casino industry is a perfect example of this, in fact, mobile gaming shot up by a whopping 75% back in 2012 and then increased once more by an additional c.85% 2013 – 2015.

In 2020, it is estimated that over 164 million players enjoy their favourite games on their mobiles and is said to take up approximately 40% of the total online gambling market. Now, the industry relies on mobile apps and mobile play as so many players now prefer to play online slots and other forms of online gambling from the comfort of their own sofa rather than venturing out. In many homes, people don’t even have desktop computers or laptops anymore and use the internet solely on either tablets or their mobile phones, showing just how vital gambling and slot apps for the gambling industry.
