In what might just be the most shocking and welcoming news in recent horror memory, horror legend John Carpenter has joined forces with Blumhouse and Miramax for a brand-new Halloween film!
No word yet if this is going to be a remake or a reboot or well who knows what, all we do know (at least for now) is that Carpenter is NOT planning to direct. Maybe that will change?
Bloody Disgusting is indicating that Oculus and Hush director Mike Flanagan is in talks to direct the film. This makes sense since he is a talented director who has history with Blumhouse so he might just be a shoe-in.
Personally? I’d love to see Ti West (The House of the Devil) or Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat) taking the reins on this one. I love both of their films and think either of them would bring a great vision to the project.
Needless to say, having John Carpenter back in charge of this franchise is supremely excellent news. Getting Michael Myers back to his roots is going to reinvigorate this franchise and hopefully bring back the terror that is a hallmark of the original.
On the project Carpenter stated, “38 years after the original Halloween. I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all.” That quote alone is enough to make me squee with joy.
October 2017 can’t come fast enough.
