1997 gave us the most important song of all time – “Candle in the Wind 1997”. Sadly to some, dare I say middle-aged housewives in the UK, that is a true statement, but no denying it remains the second-highest selling single of all time.
Meanwhile, away from the hoopla, and back in the world of the living, in 1997 a band formed in Pennsylvania, and gigged their way up to a cult following and a seminal 2000 release, Emotion Is Dead. They didn’t hit those Elton Johnian heights but made an impact nonetheless. Now The Juliana Theory is reuniting for a 20th anniversary tour. After a seven year absence we are getting a first glimpse of the exclusive vinyl re-issue of Emotion Is Dead, only available via the tour VIP ticket package. In a recent interview with lead singer Brett Detar, Billboard remarked on how well “Emo’s Pop Masterpiece” has aged, “Emotion is a sonic cousin of Jimmy Eat World’s 1999 touchstone Clarity — a wildly ambitious punk record that breaks up its breakdowns and gang vocals with drum machines, electronic interludes and a two-song, psychedelic tour de force in its final 15 minutes.”
The Juliana Theory 20th Anniversary Tour
Taking the band through parts of the Mid-West and most of California, the 20 date routing will surely help the band get their sea-legs ready for the Warped Tour Rewind Cruise in October. What will happen with The Juliana Theory after this run, only time will tell, but for now the band is just excited to be celebrating this milestone together and with their fans. “You step away from something for seven years and you realize you miss the small stuff – all the joking around with your buddies. Even just the band text chain that started once we decided to do this tour – full of us all making fun of each other and kidding around – that kind of stuff,” explains Detar.
So if your nostalgia extends beyond Elton John and “Men in Black”, catch some quality 90s rock on this tour:
