Legion spoiler warning

We left off last episode with David trapped in an astral plane of his own making. As he’s stuck in there, the Summerland mutants are trying to figure out the truth about David, as well as figure out a way to get him back to reality.

The narrative meanders enough to where we aren’t always completely sure if Ptonomy, Syd and Melanie are actually out of David’s memories and in reality, and as unreliable a narrator as David has been established to be, this throws a lot of things into question.

As they research David’s past, they discover that his friend in so many of the memories of Lenny was actually a man named Benny. Has David superimposed Lenny in his memories because of the guilt of trapping her in the wall? Or is Lenny entirely an alternate personality/persona in David’s mind? Again, we question how real Lenny ever really was.

The reality/unreality blur keeps coming up, as Syd keeps seeing the Angriest Boy popping up in places. The damn creepy book obviously has a significance that hasn’t been revealed yet.

We also meet Melanie’s husband, Oliver. He’s a mutant trapped in some astral plane ice lounge of his own making, and he and David have some bits of odd conversation about where he is and how he needs to get home. It is revealed that Syd and the rest of the Summerland mutants have run afoul of a disguised Eye while doing some good old fashioned gumshoe work in finding out more of David’s past.

We also get a look at Carey/Kerry’s past, finding out that when he was born, his sister was born inside him, and they are able to take turns controlling the body they both inhabit. Carey gets all the rote bits of life, and Kerry gets the action. We see how the two are both affected by this when Kerry fights against the Eye and his people, and Carey jerks and shudders in his mind-space as Kerry fights for their life.

At the last moment, when all looks lost and Syd is facing down The Eye, the gloves come off. Literally. She touches The Eye and swaps places, effectively rescuing the others by pretending to take them in.

At this point, David has used his friend’s peril to come out of his astral plane and teleport to save them, but he botches catching The Eye, because he realizes Syd’s swap too late. The mutants are (mostly) safe, but The Eye is still out there.

Two other interesting bits we see is that both Amy and the doctor are captives of The Eye and his organization, and they compare notes a little. We also get the implication that perhaps the Lenny living in David’s head is actually The Demon with the Yellow Eyes.
