The holidays are over and that means you’re most likely stuck with a few gift cards that you just don’t know what to do with. Unless you’re like me and relish receiving gift cards so you can get your hands on what you really want. But, just in case you aren’t like me, I thought it would be a great help to give some suggestions on where to use those Amazon Gift Cards. We’ve picked a few of our favorite labels and highlighted some recent titles for them on which I personally think you’ll be more than happy to drop your gift cards money.
Read on for some fantastic titles!
Arrow Video has been a much loved label for genre fans for a while but until recently, you had to have a region free Blu-ray player to enjoy their releases. That is no longer the case as Arrow has taken the US by storm with some absolutely great releases this past year. They are a grade A label and these five titles should be no-brainers to add to your shelf. Classic horror from around the world including one of my absolute favorites, Creepshow 2! Arrow Video is really giving new life to these titles with great transfers and stellar special features. Definitely give these titles a look.
- C.H.U.D. (Note: You can also grab a great Blu-ray release of CHUD 2: Bud The Chud)
- Creepshow 2
- The Driller Killer
- The Initiation
- Dark Water
I think it’s no secret that Scream Factory is my favorite label and I am just as stoked as ever to share some of their excellent recent releases. Scream has really come into their own over the years and they have reached a great mix of contemporary independent horror/thriller releases courtesy of their partnership with IFC Midnight, and are continuing to bring cult classics back into the mainstream. This batch of titles includes a bit of everything, including a fantasy release from their parent label Shout Factory, not to mention two classics from David Cronenberg, and one of the greatest slasher films of all time: Black Christmas.
Criterion is the granddaddy of specialty home video labels. Their commitment to excellence and to film in general is unmatched. A Criterion release is guaranteed to be top notch in terms of quality, features, and everything you would hope for in a special edition release. If I highlighted all the titles I wanted to, this post would be never-ending, so I had to settle on a few recent titles. Criterion releases are high water marks for home video titles so you can be comfortable knowing your gift card is going for something special.
So maybe you aren’t into these speciality labels and want something a little more mainstream – let’s not forget some of the majors (and minors) out there who are also putting some good stuff to lure your giftcard money. Here are a few titles from Sony, Fox, Full Moon, and more for your consideration – a bit of everything from horror to docudrama (and a fantastic film no less) to a Merchant Ivory classic and anything in between, not too mention a gorgeous special edition of a Joan Crawford classic from up and coming label Olive Films.
- Snowden
- Morgan
- Head of the Family
- Howard’s End
- Goat
- The Devil Lives Here
- Johnny Guitar
- I.T.
- Florence Foster Jenkins
I hope you found some great titles to spend your holiday gift cards on! I tried to give you guys a nice selection of films. I know it’s horror heavy but what else did you expect?
