Dr. Flax (Lesley-Anne Down) is attacked and bitten by Jean-Charles Pommier (Pierce Brosnan playing a Frenchman but still with a distinct English accent) who then promptly dies. Soon, she begins to experience flashbacks of Pommier’s life in the week leading up to his death. He was investigating a strange nomadic punk cult that was fixated on his house. Now, from the bite, Dr. Flax is infected with whatever drove him mad and she must hurry to avoid his fate.
This is a fascinating first effort from Director John McTiernan who would soon after go on to great fame helming Predator, Die Hard, and The Hunt for Red October. It’s not a great film but his talent is evident in every shot and there’s enough interest to make it worth collecting and having a look. Pierce Brosnan is in it, but the Genre crowd is going to be most interested in an appearance by the incomparable, the goddess, she who is without equal, Mary Woronov. The Scream Factory disc also includes interviews, a trailer, a radio spot, and still gallery.
This neat extraterrestrial thriller played Fantasia International Film Festival last year. The film follows Bill Cassidy, a man who was visited by aliens decades earlier. We are presented with two stories, a found footage film of a Documentarian following Bill in the woods before a solar storm and what happened afterwards when Bill is captured by the government and tortured by a sadistic doctor. The two stories together form a mystery of what happened in the woods and what secrets Bill is keeping.
The disc only includes the film trailer for extras.
